Sustainable children's tableware made of enamel – why YIV is the better choice

YIV Emaille Teller mit Spaghetti

Who doesn't know it, dear YIV friends? Sticky hands, brittle plastic dishes, and frustrating mealtimes. In mid-October 2016, after my then two-year-old daughter's lunch, I thought: "Enough is enough!"

I wanted to move away from plastic – towards sustainable, circular, and resource-saving children's products. That's how YIV was born: a Swiss label for multifunctional enamel children's tableware that combines everyday usability and environmental awareness. Founded in Switzerland in 2016. 🌿

Why enamel children's tableware is the best choice

Enamel consists of natural raw materials – steel and glass – making it one of the most honest materials available. No plastic, no harmful substances, no hidden chemicals.

What distinguishes YIV enamel children's tableware:

  • Durable & generational – A YIV plate lasts for decades and still looks good
  • Free of harmful substances – No BPA, no melamine, no coatings that peel off
  • Multifunctional – From breakfast plate to camping bowl, from hob directly to the table
  • Locally produced – In Austria at Riess, with hydropower, CO₂-neutral
  • Easy to clean – Simply wash off, done

After our first YIV plate, other products followed: lids, seals, YIV cork, and much more – all designed so that meals can be prepared energy-efficiently, stored safely, and transported easily.

The YIV cup: From freezing to feeding

Our enamel cup with a lid is the perfect companion for preparing baby food – a piece that can do it all:

  • Freeze – Portion porridge and freeze directly in the cup
  • Chill – Store freshly cooked porridge safely in the refrigerator
  • Warm – Heat directly on the hob or in a water bath
  • Feed – Spoon from the same cup – no transfer, no extra dishes

No plastic, no BPA, no transfer. Simply practical – from the very beginning. 🌿

Our philosophy: Sustainability & circularity

At YIV, we produce consciously – only the amount that is truly needed:

  • Timeless & local – No excess, no fast-fashion principle for the kitchen
  • Pre-order model – Quality instead of overproduction
  • Recyclable & circular – Packaging made from recycled material, e.g., cardboard from Chur
  • 100% recyclable – Enamel can be fully recycled at the end of its life

With YIV, we combine everyday usability, environmental awareness, and genuine joy in eating. Every meal becomes not only practical – but also responsible.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions about enamel children's tableware

Is enamel safe for children? Yes, absolutely. Enamel consists of steel and glass – no harmful substances, no BPA, no coatings. It is one of the safest materials for children's tableware.

Can enamel go in the dishwasher? Yes, enamel is dishwasher safe. For a particularly long lifespan, however, we recommend hand washing – it protects the surface.

What happens if enamel gets a chip? Small chips are normal for a natural material with character. As long as no rust develops, the dishes can still be used safely. For deeper damage, we recommend replacing the item.

Is enamel children's tableware really more sustainable than plastic? Yes – significantly. Plastic tableware needs to be replaced every few years and ends up in the trash. An enamel piece lasts for decades and is fully recyclable at the end of its life. The math is simple.

From what age is enamel children's tableware suitable? YIV enamel is suitable from the moment children eat at the table – so from about 1 year old. The plates and bowls are light, handy, and child-friendly.

Where is YIV enamel produced? At Riess in Austria – with electricity from their own hydropower, CO₂-neutral, and in family hands for generations.
